MAG Foundation ‘Think About It’ Press Release FOR RELEASE JANUARY 25, 2014 Contact Lori Cassity Murphy at 678.303.9282 or lmurphy@mag.org GAINESVILLE RESIDENT DESCRIBES LOSS OF GRANDSON TO RAISE AWARENESS FOR PRESCRIPTION DRUG ABUSE, UPCOMING SUMMIT GAINESVILLE – Gainesville resident Dallas Gay, who is the co-chair of the Medical Association of Georgia Foundation’s ‘Think About It’ campaign to reduce prescription drug abuse in the state, participated in a press conference that took place at the State Capitol in Atlanta on January 23 to promote the upcoming National Rx Drug Abuse Summit – which is the “largest national collaboration of professionals on (the prescription drug abuse) issue.” The press event featured Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal and U.S. Rep. Hal Rogers. The summit will take place in Atlanta on April 22-24. “There are some important steps that we can all take as individuals to fight this epidemic in Georgia,” says Gay, who lost his grandson, Jeffrey Gay, to prescription drug abuse in 2011. “That includes storing your medicines in a safe and secure place, as well as properly disposing of unused medicines as soon as it’s possible and appropriate.” The MAG Foundation created the ‘Think About It’ campaign to curb prescription drug abuse in Georgia by raising awareness and promoting a comprehensive drug policy in the state. The effort involves a wide range of organizations, including medical societies, the Georgia Composite Medical Board, the Georgia Board of Pharmacy, the Georgia Pharmacy Association, the Council on Alcohol and Drugs, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation – as well as other law enforcement agencies, schools, and business and religious and other community organizations.
