The Medical Association of Georgia is encouraging physicians and other applicable health care providers in the state to register for the state’s Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP).
Physicians can use the PDMP to determine if their patients have obtained controlled substance prescriptions from other physicians and where those prescriptions have been filled.
It is also worth noting that legislators in Georgia recently passed H.B. 900, which will enhance the state’s PDMP by 1) giving physicians the authority to delegate the right to access the PDMP system to staff who are licensed, registered or board-certified health care professionals and 2) allowing prescribers and dispensers to communicate with each other about potential abusers and 3) allowing individuals who are authorized to access the PDMP system to report instances of misuse or abuse to the patient’s primary prescriber.
Contact the Georgia Drugs and Narcotics Agency at GAPDMP@gdna.ga.gov or 404.656.5100 with questions. Contact gapdmp-info@hidinc.com or 855.729.8919 for technical support during the registration process.
